The Brains Behind the Solution: Meet The Hammer Solutions Development Team

The saying “it takes a village” applies to a plethora of scenarios, including the ongoing innovation of The Hammer Solutions. The continuous evolution of the software is credited to four hardworking individuals: Mae Ann, Ted, Mayi and Mayette, the Philippines-based software development team that makes The Hammer Solutions possible.

Back in January 2017 Mae Ann was the only developer on the team. Ted and Mayi joined in August 2018 for phase two development, followed by Mayette in September.

“When I first started working on The Hammer, I was the only developer at that time,” Mae Ann said. “Seeing the team grow over the years has been a delight.”

With backgrounds in computer science, engineering and applied physics, the team members bring a diverse set of experiences to the software development field. But a few of them did not expect to work in this industry. Mayi was ready to graduate with a degree in applied physics when she decided to take an exam offered to computer engineering students. To her surprise, she passed the exam and was offered a job as a software developer.

“It was by chance that I got into software development, but after 14 years I am still in this field by choice,” Mayi said. “No regrets to this very day; it’s still fun and fulfilling to be here.”

The team thoroughly enjoys the work they do for The Hammer Solutions. The continuous opportunities to innovate, grow and conquer new challenges keep them excited about providing ongoing development support. A particular highlight for Ted is the privilege to turn customer feedback into real-life change.

“The opportunity to work on new features, functionalities and modules every day is why The Hammer is exciting,” he said. “I enjoy working on it because I never feel stagnant. Attending to the customers’ requests makes it more challenging and interesting.”

The team as a whole is responsible for all of The Hammer Solution’s capabilities, but each person holds a favorite memory of their time working on the software. A particular highlight for Mae Ann was the recent development of the single sign-on functionality, which allows users to have one login to access both the Drill-Down Analysis tool and the Cost Estimation Tool – something users had been requesting for years.

From stargazing to playing basketball in their free time, the team members enjoy a variety of activities. Now that they work from their homes, Mayette has taken up cooking. The shift to remote work allows her to try new things.

“I love food,” she said, “and since we are working from home and I am currently living in the countryside, where I can’t get the food I want with a click of a button, I am learning how to cook so I can enjoy my food at home.”

Mae Ann, Ted, Mayette and Mayi are a close-knit team that works tirelessly to make The Hammer Solutions possible. They are the brains behind the solution.

“I feel blessed to be on this team,” Mayi said. “My teammates are a happy bunch, passionate about what they do, and help each other a lot; it does not really feel like working at all. As they say, ‘If you take out the team in teamwork, it’s just work.’ Now, who wants that?”
